Steps

  1. 1Prepare the stuffing: Add coconut, jaggery powder, and roasted peanuts in a pan. Cook for 5 minutes.
  2. 2Add cinnamon powder and black pepper powder to the mixture and mix well. Cool the mixture completely and set aside.
  3. 3To make the dumplings dough: Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a heavy-bottomed pan.
  4. 4In a separate bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of the hot water with 1 teaspoon of rice flour to make a thick slurry.
  5. 5Add this slurry to the boiling water and let it come back to a boil.
  6. 6Add the salt and the remaining rice flour all at once. Stir continuously over medium flame for 3-4 minutes until it forms a thick, cohesive mass.
  7. 7Turn off the heat, cover the pan, and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  8. 8Once cool enough to handle, knead the dough until it is smooth and soft.
  9. 9Divide the dough into small, lemon-sized balls. Flatten a ball with your fingertips and create a depression in the center to form a cup.
  10. 10Fill the cup with the cooled coconut-jaggery stuffing.
  11. 11Seal the edges with wet fingers, shaping the dumpling as desired (e.g., a half-moon).
  12. 12Place the dumplings in a steamer and steam for 15 minutes.
  13. 13Let the Mohura Pitha cool slightly before serving.
